Feather Care

Feathers are made out of the same stuff as fingernails which is a protein-like substance called Keratin. It is the toughest of animal materials. However, pests and mold and sun can still destroy feathers. But as long as you take these simple steps, your feathers should last forever, barring a chew-happy puppy or some other accident.

Cleaning

To keep your feather jewelry safe and sound, don't go overboard with cleaning! Make sure to do a small check-up after getting back home so they're in proper condition. But if you want give them an actual good wash every month or two (depending on how often it gets worn),Wash with a mild soap like dish soap. Gently rub off any dirt by moving your fingers from the base toward the tip of the feather.

Wet / Wrinkled Feathers

If the feathers get wet, don’t panic. Grab a blow drier turn it to slow speed and blow dry them from a safe distance. If you don’t have a blow dryer don’t make the mistake of cleaning it with cloth, instead let them dry on their own in the shade.

If feathers get wrinkled or out of place, use light steam then brush them back into place.

Storage

The delicate beauty of these feathers demands respect. They need a space that is both dust-free and moisture free, which can be difficult to find in an home where they may get trapped between drawers or bags if left unchecked for too long! Hanging them up will ensure their safety while also preventing tanglements or storing in an airtight container or bag so that any dirt doesn't have a chance to stick around on these delicate pieces of art.
